If you are asked to hand in a specimen, please ensure that we receive it in the correct container, obtained from the surgery, marked with name, date of birth and date of sample. Similarly, if you need a blood test please make a morning appointment.
On average please allow 2 working days for your test results to come back from the hospital unless your doctor has advised otherwise. Please note that X-ray results take a little longer, usually 6 days. Test results may be obtained over the telephone from the receptionist, please call the Surgery between 1.30-3.30pm to avoid the busy surgery times. If there is a problem with a test result, the surgery will make every effort to contact you, or if the doctor wants to see you about the result, we will offer you an appointment.
Please remember the following points:
- Results will only be given to the specific patient to whom they apply. In the interest of confidentiality please be prepared to identify yourself, this is in line with Practice confidentiality and the Data Protection Act. Information cannot be disclosed to a 3rd party, which also includes other family members.
- Please telephone between 1:30pm – 3:30pm, to give the Doctor time to comment on the test and at a time when the receptionist will have more time to deal with your enquiry. Checking results can be time consuming so is not possible during a busy morning.
- Please do not expect the reception staff to have any medical knowledge. They are instructed only to tell you if your test is normal. If the test is abnormal or you require further discussion or interpretation then please refer to your Doctor.
